Project Importance

How important is a project like this one?

I don't look at birds the same way anymore.  I am actually thinking about the birds as they fly by ~ their life and how important they are to all of us.  Just because the peregrine falcon has been taken off the Federal Endangered List doesn't mean it couldn't be put back on.  We all have to be careful and take care of wildlife.

I think the falcon project is important because it has been an extra learning experience for all of us.  I am proud of the job we have done.  We have put a lot of extra effort in to this.  I would love to do this again in 5th grade!

I know a lot more about the peregrine falcon then I did.  I think it is really cool that they are the fastest animals in the world.  I didn't know they could fly as fast as they can.  I also thought it was interesting that the female is larger than the male ~ the opposite of the way it is with humans.

I thought it was really cool and interesting how they banded the birds and took the blood samples.  I am really happy I got to see that.  Just watching the babies grow and learning about them made me think it would be really cool to be a bird and be able to fly free like they do.

I felt really good every time we got a letter or message from the Woods sisters or someone through the APK discussion board.  It was really neat to realize so many people were watching our site and supporting our work with this project.

I would also like to thank the people at APK for supporting us and giving us all the opportunities they did, and Mrs. Harvey for pushing us to our full potential.                                                                                                    -Sam

The falcon project is very important.  Our site has helped many people learn about falcons and be more aware of them.  We have helped make the peregrine popular.  We have to make sure they are not wiped out.  By learning about peregrines and helping others to do the same we can help save them.                                                  -Kyle
The reason this type of project is important is so the peregrine falcon doesn't get put back on the endangered species list again.  The falcon group learned a lot about falcons and we had fun learning about them too.  Peregrines are interesting birds.                                                                                                                              -Brooke
This project was important because thanks to this project, I now know that birds have a purpose.  They are just like us ~ a part of nature.  They have their own ways to survive and it is important that we protect them.

The project was also important because we learned teamwork and helped each other out.  We all had an important role and everyone was happy with what they had to do.  We learned a lot!  We learned about the falcons, and we learned a lot about how technology can bring people together.

The best thing I learned doing this project what it would be like to be a bird.  The best experience was watching the babies being banded.  It is something I will never forget - we had watched them since they were born and it felt like they were "our" birds ~ especially since we got to name them.

Something else I enjoyed learning about was how fast a peregrine flies and can stoop down and get their prey in less than a minute!  What amazing creatures!  I want to do this project again next year.                               -Robert
