SKY HUNTERS

Click here  to see our visit to Sky Hunters

Sky Hunters in a non-profit group in Alpine ~ in the eastern part of San Diego County ~ dedicated to the rehabilitation and conservation of, and education about, raptors.  We will have the privilege of visiting the facility for an up-close and personal look at their birds of prey, including a peregrine falcon, on May 2, 2003 ... we can't wait!

Since they operate on donations from the community we wanted to do our part to help them take care of the birds they now have and their future residents.  We decided to take this on as a community service project.  Our school's Student Council voted to donate $50.00 to our cause.  We also decided to have a fund raiser ~ a Snack Sale ~ after school on 2 dates to raise additional money.  Our principal wanted to support our efforts and out of her own pocket donated a variety snacks for us to sell.  We hope to make enough to buy the snacks for the second day.

We will have:
Cheese popcorn and Laguna Bakery Cookies (2 to a pack) for 50¢
Fudge Brownies, Rice Krispie Treats, Twinkies, Ding Dongs, & Hostess Cupcakes for 25¢
Our goal is to make $100.00.

Check back to watch our progress, see pictures of our visit to Sky Hunters,
and find out what we learn there.

Our first day 4/22, was a success!
We almost sold out of everything and made $86.50.
In 15 minutes we sold;
74 bags of popcorn
30 packages of cookies
24 fudge brownies
16 Twinkies (1 box)
16 Hostess Cupcakes (1 box)
24 Ding Dongs (1 box)
29 Rice Krispie Treats
Some people even told us to keep the change and 1 teacher donated an extra $5.00.

We were going to use some of the money we earned
to buy goodies to sell the next week, except Mr. Harvey (our teacher's husband) wanted to support the group too ...
he donated all the food for the next week's sale.

4/29 and we have a new stock of snacks ...
This time we have 60 bags of popcorn
plus 14 from last week  (50¢)
28 packages of Famous Amos Chocolate Chip plus 23 packages of assorted cookies
from last week (50¢)
36 packages of assorted peanut butter
and cheese crackers (25¢)
40 Ring Pops (50¢)
100 Tootsie Roll Pops (25¢)
100 Jolly Rancher Pops (25¢)
What is left will be sold on 4/30.

Setting up for the snack sale.

Business was booming.

We did SO well 4/29, that Ms. Marshack made a quick run to Costco the morning of 4/30 to get
60 more bags of popcorn and 80 more ring pops.  We bought these with our profits.
After a brisk business again, we more than reached our goal!
After 3 after school snack sales (about 15 minutes each) we had earned $301.00!

We decided to share the wealth.
We are making a cash donation to Sky Hunters for $150.50 AND
a cash donation to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Wildlife Division for $150.50,
 all "for the birds".
