Time Management

Stay Organized ~ Stay Focused
Successful students "budget" their time so everything gets done ~ including playing!
"Careful time management increases academic success."
AVID Press 2004

Before going to your next class, take "time" to check and make sure you have books, materials,
and any assignments in your backpack.  Before going home check your planner and gather all the
materials you will need to finish work at home.

Have a set schedule / study time for doing any assignments at home, and stick to it.  Get rid of
distractions ~ discourage friends from calling or visiting you during this time.

Make a list of what you need to get done and number each task from the most important to the
least important for that day.  Don't plan too many activities for one day.

Don't try to do two things at once either  ~ studying and watching T. V. or talking on the phone
      divides your attention.

Do the more difficult assignments / tasks first.

Be flexible ~ your planned schedule may need to change.

Use small chunks of time to get things done during the day ~ when all your class work is complete,
while you are waiting for a ride home or the bus, sitting at the dentist's or doctor's office ~ this is
      using your time wisely.

Don't forget to give yourself breaks during longer study times.

Don't PROCRASTINATE.  Whether it is an assignment due tomorrow, a project due in a few
weeks, or a test coming up next week, get started on it as soon as it is assigned.  Waiting until
the last minute will only create stress.
