Steven Frederic Bass

I have attended Poway Schools  all my life. My parents moved here with hopes of getting into a young and strong school district, and they were very happy with their choice. I have been involved with children most of my life. I started working with young swimmers when I was fourteen and continued
working with children. I worked with day care facilities until I graduated from UCSD and SDSU. I have a masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction.

I started teaching at Meadowbrook in 1988 and have taught humanities, math and physical education. I have been a mentor teacher working with new teachers and also working with the writing standards throughout the middle schools in Poway. I have been the Summer School Principal at Meadowbrook for five years. I have been recognized by Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers for the 1994, 1996, 1998, 2000 and 2002 editions. I have worked with the  language arts cadre of teachers throughout the County for the 1995-1997 years. I am one of ten National Teacher Advisors for Cable in the Classroom for 2002-2004.   I am currently teaching  in the credential and master’s programs at National University. I continue to enjoy working with learning and students. I have been leading eighth-grade Washington DC student trips from Meadowbrook since 2001.

Personal

On a more personal note, I have five children and I have coached many sports throughout the years. I enjoy the outdoors and we go to the beach a lot. I have hiked the John Muir trail through Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada mountains and we camp and hike often.  Teaching, reading, opera and shows, studying history and raising children occupy most of my time. Overall, San Diego has been good to me.  Here's to the future!

Philosophy

I want students to leave the classroom and be successful in high school and life. I expect them to become productive and self-directed. I would like to see an academically strong and enjoyable year for all students. Through student, parent, and teacher involvement, all students should succeed.

Again, welcome to the classroom.
Here's to a great year!

Sincerely,

Mr. Bass
